4/16-4/17 Romans 6

  1. Are you Dead?

  2. Are you alive?

  3. Do you practice replacement?

Romans 6:2 (KJV) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

  • That is a question that i deal with all to often

  • Why do we let sin have reign over us when we have Christ

Romans 6:4 (KJV) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

  • I know often the solution to stop something God is dealing with me on is to replace it with something better

  • What do you choose to do as replacement

Romans 6:5 (KJV) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection:

  • We have the power of the resurrection

  • That is the challenge in the Christian life we have the power through Christ but it’s the requirement that we access is daily/moment by moment that trips us up

  • Exodus 16:4 (KJV) Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

  • We are not the children of Israel but part of that daily choice we all make is to Prove us,

    • The problem is we don’t like to be questioned

    • Why - Pride

Romans 6:6-7 (KJV) 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

  • I know this is not scripture or may not even be a real quote, but an officer with Easy company (during WWII) said the key to performing in combat was not , not being afraid ,we are all afraid, but recognizing that you are already dead

  • Have you told the sin in your life that you are dead to that sin?

Romans 6:10-11 (KJV) 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • All of this is only possible through Jesus Christ

  • How do we make ourselves alive unto God

    • Obey the truth you know,

    • Study Gods word how else are we going to know his mind on things if we don’t read his book on the subject, other books are fine, but there are plenty of books that are mentioned in scripture( book of the wars of the lord, Numbers 21:14,book of the prophet Ido, 2chron 13:22, and at least a dozen more) but these books were not preserved for us,

      • How much do you study the one book God has preserved for us

      • 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

      • Do read the entire Bible, the psalms and the New Testament are a good Start, but if you want to know all that God has to say you can’t ignore the bigger “half” of the Bible

      • Things like

        • Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

        • Malachi 4:2 (KJV)But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

        • Malachi 3:17 (KJV)And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

        • Deuteronomy 7:6 (KJV) For thou [art] an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that [are] upon the face of the earth.-

        • I am not claiming all of the promises of Israel, but we, the saved Gentiles were grafted in

        • Romans 11:17 (KJV) And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

        • The list of endearing things that God has written down in the Old Testament is too long for this space, so I encourage you to find more of them

Romans 6:12-13 (KJV) 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God.

  • I don’t believe In Replacement theology (God is permanently done with Israel and the church takes her place)

  • I do however believe in the Replacement principle, you cannot just kick wickedness to the curb you have to replace the wickedness in your life with something holy

  • Matthew 12:43-45 (KJV) 43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth [it] empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

  • Even diet and exercise gurus will say that, don’t just stop eating bad things, replace with something healthier, though celery does not taste near as good as potatoes chips but I digress

Romans 6:16-18 (KJV) 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

  • We don’t have to be under the power of sin any more

  • We are free from that as we are supposed to be dead to it

    • Am I mostly dead(is also a little bit alive) or am I all dead (then you can go through my pockets for loose change)

Romans 6:22-23 (KJV) 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • How fruitful is my life

  • Do I share my gift
